Author’s Purpose Task Cards (Clip Cards)

These Author’s Purpose task cards give students a fun, interactive way to build their understanding of why authors write. With simple, Year‑2‑friendly sentences, students read each card and decide whether the purpose is to persuade, inform, or entertain. The hands‑on element keeps learners engaged and supports fine‑motor development at the same time.

Perfect for small‑group work, independent tasks, or fast‑finisher activities, these cards require no prep beyond printing and laminating. Students can use pegs, counters, or markers to show their answer, making the activity flexible for any classroom setup. The self‑contained format also makes it ideal for literacy groups.

Perfect for Literacy Groups

These Author’s Purpose clip cards work beautifully in literacy centres because students can complete them independently and check in with a partner or teacher afterwards. The simple format makes it easy for students to rotate through the activity, practise reading short texts, and make quick decisions about whether the author is trying to persuade, inform, or entertain.

With minimal setup and maximum engagement, they’re an ideal addition to your weekly literacy routine.
