What Can You Teach with a 10 Frame?

• Teach Your Students to Subitize! Ten frames help students develop subitizing skills, which is identifying the number of items in a group without counting them individually. The filled squares on the frame make it easy to perceive the number of objects in a set.
• Practise Counting! By placing counters or manipulatives on the frame, students can efficiently count the occupied squares and reinforce their understanding of the correlation between numbers and objects through one-to-one correspondence.
• Compose and Decompose Numbers! Using ten frames can help students comprehend how numbers can be taken apart and put together to form larger numbers. This promotes their understanding of composing and decomposing numbers.
• Essential Addition and Subtraction! Ten frames are helpful tools for basic addition and subtraction, providing a visual model of combining and removing objects. By manipulating counters on the frame, students can efficiently perform addition and subtraction operations and generate mental maths strategies
