Match the Wings to Make the Contraction!

This set of worksheets has been designed to help students practise their knowledge of contractions. In this fun bumblebee-themed set of worksheets, students need to create the matching contraction for two words (each seen in a wing of a bumblebee). 

Learning contractions are a crucial part of everyday language. They make speech and writing more fluid and natural by shortening common word pairs. Mastering contractions helps students with the following skills:

Here are some easy activity ideas to help your students practise their knowledge of contractions:

• Contraction Relay Race – Divide students into teams and create a relay race where they have to run to a board, find a word, and write its contraction before running back and tagging the next team member.
• Contraction Scavenger Hunt – Hide cards around the classroom or outdoor space, each containing either a contraction or its full words. Kids search for the cards and match the contractions with their full-word counterparts.
• Contraction Charades – Write contractions on slips of paper and have kids act out the words without speaking while their classmates guess the contraction.
