Using This Cause and Effect Activity in the Classroom

This cause and effect activity is easy to prepare and use. Here’s how!

Preparation

  1. Download the cause and effect comprehension worksheets in your preferred format. 
  2. Print a copy of the story and the matching worksheets for each student. Alternatively, project the story on your interactive whiteboard.
  3. Provide students with scissors, glue and pencils. 

Student Instructions 

  1. Begin by reading the short story.
  2. Next, cut out the causes and effects from Worksheet 1.
  3. Match each cause to its corresponding effect, arranging them in the order they appear in the story.
  4. Once matched, glue the ordered pairs onto Page 2.
  5. Wrap up the activity by completing the ‘More Causes and Effects’ worksheet, where you will be asked to come up with your own causes and effects related to the story.
