Year 3 Fractions Worksheet

Once students enter year 2 and year 3, they may be working to understand equal parts and how they relate to halves, quarters and eighths. We have a worksheet ready for you to use in your classroom that involves understanding parts of a whole and simple fractions.

With this worksheet, students will use different colours to represent fractions while creating their own fruit pie. One version is split into 8 equal parts, whereas the other version is split into one-half, one-quarter and two-eighths.

Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding

In addition to independent student work time, use this worksheet as an activity for:

  • Guided maths groups
  • Fast finishers
  • Homework assignment
  • Whole-class review (via smartboard)

For students who need an additional challenge, encourage them to practice adding fractions to create a bigger piece of the pie. For example, ⅛ + ⅜.

If students need additional support, consider using hands-on fraction circles to help students see the different pieces that are needed to create a whole.
