Create a fruit pie with different fillings while exploring halves, quarters, and eighths with these fraction coloring sheets
2nd Grade Fractions Worksheet
Once students enter second grade, they may be working to understand equal parts and how they relate to halves, fourths, and eighths. We have a worksheet ready for you to use in your classroom that involves understanding parts of a whole and basic fractions.
With this worksheet, students will use different colors to represent fractions while creating their own fruit pie. One version is split into 8 equal parts, whereas the other version is split into one-half, one-quarter, and two-eighths.
Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding
In addition to independent student work time, use this worksheet as an activity for:
- Guided math groups
- Lesson warm-up
- Lesson wrap-up
- Fast finishers
- Homework assignment
- Whole-class review (via smartboard)
For students who need an additional challenge, encourage them to practice adding fractions to create a bigger piece of the pie. For example, ⅛ + ⅜.
If students need additional support, consider using hands-on fraction circles to help students see the different pieces that are needed to create a whole.
