Incorporate STEM Activities Into Your International Dot Day Celebrations!

This International Dot Day resource is the perfect S.T.E.A.M activity for you to share with your students on Dot Day!

This activity encourages students to work creatively in teams to construct three-dimensional shapes in a competitive environment. This grouping of eight task cards guides students through the construction of eight different three-dimensional shapes using gumdrop (dot) lollies and toothpicks. What an exciting way to celebrate the meaning behind Dot Day!

How to Use These STEM Task Cards

  • Print one copy of the task cards. Place task cards in different locations around the classroom and divide your students into groups of four.
  • Provide each group with a box of toothpicks and a container or bag of gumdrop lollies.
  • Set a timer for five minutes. Have students attempt to build the structure on the card. As students finish their structures, inspect them and award a point to the teams that were successful.
  • Students rotate through all cards, taking their materials with them until they have completed all tasks. The team with the most points wins!
