Superhero Addition and Subtraction on a Number Line Fun!

Teaching number sense to early learners is crucial for developing a solid foundation in mathematics. Number sense refers to the ability to understand and manipulate numerical quantities, a fundamental skill essential for success in maths. The number line is one of the best tools for teaching number sense to young children is the use of a number line. A number line is a visual representation of numbers in a linear format, where each point on the line corresponds to a unique numerical value. Children can better understand number relationships and operations such as addition, subtraction, and number sequencing using a number line.

This fun activity blends your students’ love for superheroes with a hands-on maths strategy to make learning exciting. This activity requires students to solve addition and subtraction problems using movable superheroes that fly up and down the number line. 

Differentiated Addition and Subtraction Activity 

No need to worry about building in differentiation! We’ve done the work for you. This activity comes in two variations for students working at different levels.  We’ve included the following.

• Addition and Subtraction up to 10 – This version uses a number line that only includes the numbers 0-10 and fact cards within that grouping.
• Addition and Subtraction up to 20 – This version uses a number line that includes numbers up to twenty and fact cards for that grouping.
