## Let’s Learn Odd and Even Numbers to 60

This set of colourful strategy mats is the perfect resource to add to your odd and even lesson planning. Students are encouraged to explore numbers in depth with several different ways to work out if a number is odd or even, such as:

• Model the number – easily showing if it’s odd or even.
• Colour tens frames to show if it a number is odd or even.
• Explain in your own words how a number is odd or even.
• Answer if the number is odd or even.
• Skip count in 2s – if you reach the number, it is even if you don’t it’s odd.
• Use tally marks to divide the number up – if you have equal groups, it is even if you don’t it is odd.
• Draw the number and circle into pairs.

This variety of activities will help most students determine if a number is odd or even and show their knowledge of this concept.

This set of strategy mats can be used in small groups or for individuals who may need extra hands-on help with this concept. It’s also a great visual that you can display on your whiteboard and work through as a class during the initial stages of teaching about odd and even numbers.
