Division Task Cards for Deepening Mathematical Understanding

Developing a strong understanding of division involves much more than finding answers. Students need opportunities to recognise how division can be represented in different ways and how these representations connect to real-world situations.

These division task cards challenge students to match division equations with their corresponding arrays, bar models and word problems. Once students have identified each matching set, they explain what the numbers represent and write the related multiplication fact to explore the inverse relationship between multiplication and division.

By working across multiple representations, students strengthen their division reasoning, develop a deeper understanding of equal grouping and improve their ability to interpret mathematical models and problem situations. An answer key is included to support quick and easy marking.

Flexible Ways to Use These Division Task Cards

This resource can be used in a variety of classroom settings:

  • Maths Rotations – Add the cards to a maths station for collaborative sorting and discussion.
  • Partner Problem-Solving – Encourage students to justify why each card belongs in a particular set.
  • Revision and Consolidation – Reinforce division concepts and inverse operations through hands-on practice.
