Teach your students how to be a good sport with this digital quiz perfect for use during social-emotional learning lessons.

What Is Good Sportsmanship?

Missing important shots at goal, questionable referee decisions, teammates who don’t like to share the glory… these are all common scenarios on the sporting field! It is therefore essential that we teach our students from a very early age how to be a good sport, no matter what situation they may find themselves in. This encompasses skills such as navigating challenges, managing disappointment, collaborating with others, and trying again when things feel tough.

This fun and age-appropriate digital quiz has been designed by our teacher team to help your students identify examples of good sportsmanship. Students will read 20 different scenarios, then decide whether the student in the scenario is being a good sport (or not!).

For example:

Bianca quits the game at half time because the other team are way ahead.

(This is not being a good sport, Bianca!)

After clicking on either the “yes” or “no” option, students will be informed whether their response was correct.

The scenarios in this resource will feel familiar to students, from cheering someone on, to refusing to share equipment, to showing courage when trying something new. This makes the learning both fun and meaningful, and it helps teachers reinforce positive behaviors in a memorable way.

Teach How to Be a Good Sport

Teachers can use this digital quiz as a powerful activity during social-emotional learning lessons to explore what good sportsmanship looks like across a range of everyday school situations. Here’s some ideas from our team to get you started:

  • Use each quiz scenario as a discussion starter, encouraging students to explain why a behavior shows good or poor sportsmanship.
  • Invite students to make connections to their own experiences, helping them reflect on times they shared, encouraged someone or struggled with fairness.
  • Use “good sport” examples to help students build a class definition of positive behavior and set expectations for teamwork in PE and group work.
