Explore Story Characters

Characters are an essential element in narrative texts. Without characters, there is no story!

This hands-on flipbook has been designed to help your students analyze a character from a text they have recently read in more detail. In completing this activity, students will learn more about their chosen character’s traits, personality and relationships. Students will write about their chosen character using the following prompts:

  • How old is the character?
  • What does the character look like?
  • Is the character life-like or imaginary?
  • Write a description of the character’s personality.
  • Who are the other characters in the book and how do they behave around this character?
  • Write your favorite quote from your character and attribute your speaker by writing his or her name.
  • List 3 interesting facts about the character.
  • Is your chosen character similar or different to you? Why?
  • Sketch a picture of your chosen character.
