Build Classroom Relationships with Morning Meeting Greetings and Questions

Starting the school day with a classroom meeting is a fantastic way to boost students’ social and emotional development. Running class meetings can create an open environment where students feel safe to explore their emotions and concerns and connect with their peers. This set of Google Slides can assist you in organizing and planning your daily classroom meetings.

This template includes various Good Morning slides that are perfect for displaying as your students enter the classroom. We’ve included prompts, questions, and activities that can be used to ease your students into the school day and build a bridge for emotional connection.

How to Run a Class Meeting

How you run a class meeting may be a little different from how the teacher next door will run a meeting, as it depends on the students in your class. Here are some tips:

  • Having an agenda of what you do each meeting will create a routine, and students will know what to expect.
  • Ensure your students understand and use respectful communication skills.
  • Some teachers find using a “talking” ball is a great way to ensure each student has the space and freedom to talk without interruption. When a student is holding the ball, they are the only ones allowed to talk.
  • Having a spot for shoutouts – a way for students to call out nice and friendly behavior.
  • Focus on solutions – if problems arise in discussion – talk with the students about how issues could be fixed or how something could be done differently.
