Counting Pennies Worksheet With Coloring Fun

Use this independent practice worksheet to support your money lesson in kindergarten or 1st grade as students identify coins valued at 1 cent and use their counting and addition skills to determine how many pennies are needed for a given amount.

Available as a printable PDF or in a Google Slides template, challenges students to look at a variety of coins and color the pennies. They’ll have to identify both the front and backside of a penny, as well as count the current amount of pennies

Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding

If you have students who need more of a challenge, encourage them to label different coins (quarter, nickel, and dime).

Support students who need additional help by completing the worksheet in a small group or 1:1 setting. Additionally, invite students to use a visual reminder of the various coins, such as an anchor chart or classroom poster.

Use the dropdown icon on the Download button to choose between the PDF or editable Google Slides version of this resource.

Because this resource includes an answer sheet, we recommend you print one copy of the entire file. Then, make photocopies of the blank worksheet for students to complete.

Turn this teaching resource into a sustainable activity by printing on cardstock and slipping it into a dry-erase sleeve. Students can record their answers with a whiteboard marker, then erase and reuse them.
