Who doesn’t love gingerbread men? Now imagine a letter sound picture sort with these delicious treats! Your students will enjoy searching through the gingerbread pieces to find the pictures that match the letter sound on each jar. This is a fun and effective way to introduce or reinforce letter-sound recognition and spelling practice in a Christmas-themed activity.

Here’s how it works: each student selects 1–5 cookie jars and says the sound of the letter on each. Then, they search through the gingerbread pieces to find pictures that start with the same sound. Once they match a gingerbread man to a jar, students record the word phonetically on their sheet, reinforcing reading and writing skills at the same time.
