Snow Globe Craftivity for Procedural Writing

If you’re looking for a procedural writing activity that has been designed by experienced teachers with young learners in mind, then you’ve come to the right place!

This resource combines a practical, hands-on craft activity with a scaffolded procedural writing task. Students will enjoy the hands-on experience of cutting and pasting pieces together to create their own beautiful snow globe. Afterwards, they’ll get to practice their writing skills by composing a procedure text that explains the steps they followed to make their snow globe craft.

The resource download includes everything you’ll need to complete this snow globe craftivity with your class of eager learners:

  1. Title page containing visual representation of the craftivity
  2. Teacher instructions
  3. 5 x differentiated writing templates
  4. Snow globe craftivity cut-outs

Comprehensive instructions explaining how you might like to use this resource in your classroom are included to help you make the most of this procedural writing activity.

This resource would make a great addition to your winter- or holiday-themed lessons!

Differentiated Versions of This Snow Globe Craftivity

We know there’s a vast range of writing abilities present in most early years classrooms, and we’re here to help! Whether you have writers in your classroom struggling to form complete sentences or those who can write entire texts independently, we’ve got a template to suit their skill set! This resource contains five different templates that are all slightly different. Choose the template that best suits the learning needs of your class, or individualize learning by providing each student with the template that best suits their writing ability.

The templates included in this snow globe craftivity pack are:

  1. Students cut out the three pictures provided and paste them, in order, in the boxes provided. Lines are provided for a simple description.
  2. Students draw and label four steps under the headings of First, Next, Then and Last.
  3. Students draw and write about three steps in order.
  4. Students draw and write about four steps in order.
  5. Students complete the cloze sentences to complete the procedure. Sentence starters include:
    • I will need…
    • First, I will…
    • Next, I will…
    • Then, I will…
    • Last, I will…
