Noun Phrase Digital Exercises for Your Grammar Lessons
Understanding how a noun phrase works is an essential grammar skill that helps students write more vivid and detailed sentences. They’re not the easiest parts of speech to work with, as writing a noun phrase involves placing adjectives in the correct order according to their type. This is not always obvious, and therein lies the challenge!
This noun phrase resource features 10 different interactive slides that make grammar practice engaging and accessible for young learners. Students explore how adjectives work together to form clear descriptions by identifying, sorting and building noun groups using the Royal Order of Adjectives.
Here’s a snapshot of some of the exercises you’ll find within this digital noun phrase activity:
- Drag the adjectives in the correct order to make a noun phrase.
- Sort the adjectives into the correct categories.
- Color-code the adjectives by adjective type.
- Identify the correct order of adjectives in a noun phrase.
- And more!
This noun phrase digital resource downloads as a Google Slides file. Answers can be downloaded as a separate PDF file.

Use This Resource to Teach Noun Phrases with Confidence
This interactive resource provides a simple and effective way to introduce or review noun phrases with your whole class. Follow these steps to get the most out of the activity:
- Introduce the concept – Begin by displaying a few noun phrase examples on the whiteboard. Discuss how adjectives can be built upon each other to describe the noun, but that they must follow a particular order according to their type.
- Guided practice – Project the resource onto your screen, then work through a few activities as a class. Invite students to volunteer answers while explaining their reasoning based on word order.
- Paired or small group work – Once students are confident, allow them to complete the remaining slides with a partner or in a small group. This allows for consolidation without the stress of working without support.
