Give your students the clues and watch them select the mystery season with this set of 24 task cards.

Which Season? Task Card Activity

Help your students practise their knowledge of characteristics of seasons with this set of 24 task cards. Students will work through the set of cards and fill in their answers on their individual recording sheet, making this a perfect activity for assessment.

Included in your download is also an answer-key for quick teacher grading, or student self-grading and corrections.

To play, students select a task card and read or look at the seasons clue written on it. Next they must determine which season matches the clue. Write the correct season in the matching numbered box.

Through this activity, students will show their ability to describe seasonal changes and identify characteristics of the seasons of the year.

Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding

A team of dedicated, experienced educators created this resource to support your Science lessons!

If you have a mixture of above and below-level learners, check out these suggestions for keeping students on track with the concepts:

🆘 Support Struggling Students

Help students who need help understanding the concepts by providing extra scaffolding in a small-group setting. Provide students with additional support materials to help them correctly match the season and its trait.

➕ Challenge Fast Finishers

Students who need a challenge could make a set of six of their own seasons task cards to add into the deck.

🛴 Scoot Activity

Place the cards around the room in numerical order and give each student a recording sheet. Assign students or pairs to a starting point card. Give students time to review the card and record their answers in the corresponding space on their paper. Students will rotate to the next card when you say, “SCOOT!” Continue in this manner until students return to their starting point.

👋 Exit Ticket

Use these cards as a formative assessment after your lesson. Pick a random assortment of cards and project them on the board for the whole class to see. Students can record their answers on a sheet of paper, sticky note or notebook.

Easily Prepare This Resource for Your Students

Print on card stock for added durability and longevity. Place all pieces in a folder or large envelope for easy access.

To keep the task cards out of pockets or under desks, punch a hole in the corner of each to place them on a binder ring.
