A Fun and Imaginative Comprehension Text

This engaging comprehension resource is built around Sophia the Superdog, a playful imaginative narrative where an ordinary brown dog secretly saves the day during a busy family lunch.

Students read about spaghetti noodles that “slithered along the bench like little snakes” and Sophia’s quick‑thinking rescue, giving them a high‑interest text that blends humor, imagination and familiar family settings.

Targeted Comprehension Questions

The resource includes a full set of comprehension questions designed to help early readers identify characters, setting, problem and solution, vocabulary meaning and realistic versus imaginative elements. Students explore key moments such as Sophia barking — “Yap! Yap! Yap!” — and Nonna’s secretive “Shhh!” to deepen their understanding of narrative features and text clues. Matching, short‑answer and creative response questions provide a balanced mix of skills.

Perfect for Literacy Rotations and Small‑Group Work

This comprehension task is ideal for guided reading groups, literacy rotations or independent practice. Students build confidence by sequencing events, interpreting dialogue, identifying character traits and connecting personally with the story.

The drawing prompt invites creativity as learners design Sophia as a Superdog and label her powers, making the activity both educational and fun.
