What Is an Author’s Style of Writing?

Writing style refers to the distinctive way an author uses language, builds characters, develops plots and conveys themes across their works. By identifying the elements of an author’s style of writing, students can gain insight into how authors create impact and engage readers.

To complete this style of an author project, students will choose an author with a strong and recognizable writing style, then read at least two of that author’s books. While reading, they are encouraged to pay close attention to stylistic elements such as genre, subject matter, characters, plot structure, sentence style, vocabulary and themes. They will then create either a slideshow or a flipbook that introduces the author and explains what makes their style unique.

This open-ended project not only teaches literary analysis skills but also encourages creativity, critical thinking and effective communication.
