Practise identifying past, present and future tense in verbs using this set of cut and paste worksheets.

Time Verbs: Cut and Paste Past, Present, and Future Tense

This set of two cut and paste worksheets has been created by an experienced teacher to provide students with the opportunity to practise identifying the correct verb tense to use during their writing. Students will cut out a variety of word cards showing past, present and future tense of different verbs. They then need to glue the words into their correct groups under the following headings: Past, Present and Future.

Extension Opportunity: Once students have completed one or both of these cut and paste worksheets – get them to choose a group of verbs and have them write sentences that suit each of the verbs in the correct tense.

Versatile Cut and Paste Worksheets

While created as a simple to use cut and paste worksheet, this style of worksheet is extremely versatile and can be adapted to suit the needs of the students in your class. Here are some different ways to use this resource in your classroom:

  • Verb tense scavenger hunt: Cut up the words and stick them around the classroom. Provide students with the table and get them to walk around and find the different words and write them in the correct spots on their table.
  • Verb tense in sentences: Choose three word cards that show the same verb but in the three different tense types. Have students write each of these words in sentences.
  • Verb tense whole class game: Divide the class into two teams and re-create the table (twice) with the following headings on the whiteboard: past, present and future. Each team has the same set of word cards. Each team lines up and takes turn picking up a card and sticking it on the whiteboard under the correct headings. The team that sorts all the words in the correct spots first wins!
