Seek and Find The Parts of a Plant Activity

This parts of a plant activity is the perfect way to get your students up, outside, and learning. With these resources, you will have the tools you need to have your students search for plants that display specific, easy-to-spot features, including:

  • A flower with petals
  • Leaves with smooth or jagged edges
  • Seeds or seed pods
  • Flexible or bendy stem
  • Visible roots or root structures
  • And More!

As students locate each feature, they check it off the list and discuss or record their observations.

This resource includes two differentiated scavenger hunt checklists:

  • V1 – Designed for non-readers or very-early readers with fewer features to locate.
  • V2 – Designed for stronger or more independent readers with more features to locate

We recommend providing clipboards for outdoor use or allowing students to complete the scavenger hunt using tablets or digital cameras for picture documentation.
