Sort odd and even numbers in this fun monster-themed sorting activity.

Introduce ‘Odd Dod’ and ‘Even Beavin’ – Two Monsters to Help with Odd and Even Numbers

Use these sorting mats and numbered task cards to sort numbers into odd and even number piles. Your students will love meeting Odd Dod and Even Beavin. Odd Dod is a little odd with just one eye, and Even Beavin is a cute little monster with two eyes (that’s a pair!). Use this sorting activity along with our Odd and Even Posters that explain to students step-by-step how to classify odd and even numbers.

Sorting number cards into odd and even will assist in your student’s understanding of odd and even numbers in a number of ways, including:

  • It’s a visual and tactile way of learning, with students physically handling the number cards.
  • Pattern recognition as students may start to realise that odd numbers often end in 1,3,5,7 or 9, while even numbers end in 0, 2,4,6 or 8.
  • The grouping concept into two distinct groups teaches your students the basic concept of classification.
  • Verbal and social interaction as students engage in the sorting activity, they often talk about their thought processes with teachers or peers.
