Teaching preposition phrases can be tricky… But not so much if you have the right resources!
This preposition phrases activity is an entirely digital resource featuring 10 different interactive slides that make preposition phrases engaging and accessible for young learners. Whether you’re introducing preposition phrases for the first time or reviewing them, these activities make learning fun and accessible while improving students’ ability to identify, use and create preposition phrases in context.
Here’s a snapshot of some of the exercises you’ll find within this digital prepositions activity:
- Use the paint can tool to colour ‘True’ or ‘False’ for each statement.
- Sort the phrases into ‘Prepositional’ and ‘Non-Prepositional’.
- Move a check mark to cover if the preposition phrase is telling when, where or how.
- Drag and drop the preposition to indicate the location of the star in the picture.
- Drag and drop the correct preposition to complete the sentence.
- Sort the phrases to show if they are adverbial or adjectival.
- Drag and drop the correct prepositional phrase to complete the sentence.

Differentiate This Preposition Phrase Activity
Looking to cater to above-level, on-level and lower-level students while they engage with this activity? Here are some suggestions from our teacher team you might like to try:
- Provide Visual Aids – Less confident students may benefit from having access to visual aids, such as a prepositions vocabulary poster, while engaging with this activity. This will help them identify the prepositions at the start of each phrase.
- Partner Work – Assign the slides to students and have them work with a partner to complete them. Engaging with a peer enhances engagement and fosters collaboration and teamwork.
- Create Your Own Digital Task – Encourage more confident students to create their own digital activity for preposition phrases using Google Slides or another digital tool. They can swap with a partner to complete each other’s activities.
