Oral Language & Speaking Cards 

Support students as they develop expressive speaking skills with this fun and flexible Topic with a Twist card set. Learners draw one topic card and one twist card, then combine them to create a short, playful speech. This encourages creativity, confidence and clear communication while helping students practise adapting their voice, expression and ideas.

Topics include favourites such as Favourite Animal, Favourite Book, Favourite Food, Dream Job, Favourite Season, Favourite Game and even Silly Memory, keeping students engaged and excited to share.

The twist cards add a playful challenge: students might need to add three adjectives, start with a question, pretend to be a reporter, use a whisper voice, add a sound effect, say two sentences super fast, use hand gestures, or pretend to talk to a giant. These twists help students practise expressive speaking, oral‑language features and presentation skills in a fun, low‑pressure way.

Help students understand that strong speakers adjust their voice, expression and language depending on the situation. These cards break the skill into simple, child‑friendly steps that support oral‑language development and confidence.

Students practise:

• Choosing a topic and generating ideas
• Adding descriptive language (adjectives, numbers, expressive words)
• Using vocal expression (whisper, excited, slow motion, robot voice)
• Using physical expression (hand gestures, silly actions, happy face)
• Engaging the audience (questions, sound effects, reporter style)
• Structuring short speeches with clear beginnings and endings
