Grab This Set of Adding Fractions with Like Denominators Word Problems

If your students have mastered basic computations involving the addition of fractions with like denominators, you might be wondering whether they can apply these skills to a new context, such as word problems. Well, there is one sure way to find out!

This set of 24 task cards contains a range of word problems that require students to add fractions with like denominators. Both mixed and non-mixed fractions are included in the questions. All questions are embedded in real-world, age-appropriate situations that students will be familiar with.

Here is an example word problem:

Leanne played outside for one-third of an hour before school. She then played for another one-third of an hour after school. How long did she play in total?

Multiple Strategies for Solving Fractions Word Problems

One of the benefits of engaging with word problems is that they allow students to experiment with the various strategies they have learned for adding fractions with like denominators.
