Struggling to Help Your Students Understand Election Day?

We’re right there with you. Election Day is a challenging topic to explain to a middle schooler, but it’s even harder to explain to a kindergartener. Teaching the election process is tough, and finding materials appropriate for primary grades is even more challenging. So we’ve come up with some ideas for teaching Election Day to little kids.

Teaching Election Day to Little Kids

Here are some ways you can teach little kids about Election Day:

  • Explain what an election is: An election is a way for people to choose the leaders of their country, state, or city.
  • Talk about the importance of voting: Voting is a way for people to have a say in who makes the decisions that affect their lives. It is an important responsibility and a way for people to have a voice in their government.
  • Encourage kids to ask questions: Encourage kids to ask questions about the election process and candidates. This can help them become more engaged and informed citizens.
  • Make it fun: You can make learning about elections fun by using games, videos, or projects to teach about the election.
