Build Vocabulary with Morpheme Cards Flip

Support your students’ understanding of word structure with this engaging morpheme cards resource. This hands-on flipbook helps learners explore how prefixes, suffixes, and base words combine to form new words. By working with a morpheme words list and sorting into morphemic word families, students gain strategies for decoding, spelling, and vocabulary development.

Directions: Cut out both rectangles, then cut along the dotted lines of the bottom rectangle. Use the top rectangle as the base of the book. Place the “flips” (the three pages cut from the bottom rectangle) one on top of the other with the blue pages on top. Attach them together to the base to create your flipbook. Once assembled, the flipbook becomes a reusable tool that supports word-building practice, morpheme recognition, and exploration of morphemic word families.

Activities with a Morpheme Words List

After creating the flipbook, students can use it alongside a morpheme words list to practice:

  • Sorting into Morphemic Word Families – Group words by shared base words and explore how affixes change meaning.
  • Expanding Vocabulary – Use the flipbook and a morpheme words list to generate new examples of words containing the same root, prefix, or suffix.
  • Applying Morphemes in Context – Build sentences with words from different morphemic word families to reinforce comprehension and usage.
