Roll to Create a Creature

Upgrade to Access | 9 pages (PDF)|Grades: 1 - 6

A fun, hands-on activity using a die and a chart to create a creature to include in a narrative text or a comic strip.

Use this resource in your classroom as a fun craft activity, or as a narrative writing stimulus.

How to use this resource:

  1. Roll the die. Match the number rolled to a row on the chart, and see which feature is in the ‘1st Roll’ column. Draw (or paste) the feature onto a blank piece of paper.
  2. Roll again. Match the number to a row on the chart, and see which feature is in the ‘2nd Roll’ column. Add this element to your creature.
  3. Continue in this same manner until you have all six elements of your creature.
  4. Write a narrative text or a comic that includes your creature.

This resource works great as a writing center activity during the weeks leading up to Halloween.

Use the drop-down menu to choose the creature elements for students to paste instead of draw.
