A fun, hands-on activity using a die and a chart to create a crazy creature to include in a narrative text.

Use this teaching resource as a writing stimulus in your classroom.

Students can write a comic using our Comic Strip Templates that includes their creature. Or they can write a narrative text that includes their creature. Either way, this activity is sure to keep them engaged!

How to use this resource:

  1. Roll the die. Match the number rolled to a row on the chart, and see which body shape is in the ‘1st Roll’ column. Draw it onto a blank piece of paper.
  2. Roll again. Match the number to a row on the chart, and see which eyes are in the ‘2nd Roll’ column. Add them to your drawing.
  3. Continue in this same manner until you have all six features of your creature.
  4. Decorate your creature, create a background around it, and choose a crazy creature name.
  5. Write a narrative text or a comic that includes your creature.

Alternatively, download the creature cut-outs and have students use the cut-out features instead of drawing their own.

This resource makes a great writing center activity.
