Further Extend These Writing Prompts for December
This set of writing prompts for December have been designed to keep your students engaged in their learning right until winter vacation begins! Once students have completed their Christmas story writing, there are plenty of fun and meaningful ways to extend the activity and celebrate their creativity:
- Host a Christmas storytelling day – Invite students to read their stories aloud to classmates or younger year levels. Encourage expression and performance to build confidence and oral storytelling skills.
- Pair with art activities – Provide students with a variety of art supplies. Have them create an artwork to display alongside their writing, such as beach-inspired landscapes, summer feasts or a surfing Santa!
- Swap for a sequel – Have students swap their stories with a partner. The partner must read the story, then write a funny sequel for it. This helps students develop their narrative skills as they plan characters, settings and events.
