A great math warm-up activity where students brainstorm sums that equal a ‘target number’.
Use this math activity in the classroom as a math warm-up.
In this teaching resource, a number is placed in the middle of the target. That is the target number for the day. Students must come up with as many different ways to reach the target number as they can and write them in their math journal. Simply print out and laminate the target and write on it each day using a dry-erase marker.
This is a great activity to use in the classroom to work on students’ mental math skills. It can easily be adapted for older students by making the target number a larger number, a decimal, or a fraction. You may also challenge students by telling them they must hit the target number using three or more numbers, or by using at least two different operations. The options for this resource are endless!
