Become an Ugly Sweater Stylist With a Christmas STEM Project!

If you’re ready to get your students excited about STEM and STEAM in your classroom, this exciting Ugly Christmas Sweater project is the way to do it! Your students are placed into the following scenario in this challenging and creative activity.

Santa’s Workshop is hosting an Ugly Sweater fashion show and Christmas Party this year!  It’s rare for a child to attend, but Santa will let one of you in this year!  But only if you can design the tackiest Christmas Sweater possible. Get your fashion design hat on and create a new tacky Christmas sweater to earn your ticket into the celebration.

Their goal is to complete a series of art and design challenges to design the ugliest Christmas Sweater possible. What a fun way to inspire creativity and get them thinking in those days leading up to the Christmas Holidays!

Inspire Young Fashion Designers With Fun Christmas Activities!

This engaging activity is a surefire way to engage your students this Christmas season. And you never know…you might inspire the next global fashion icon. To complete this project, students will 

  1. Choose design elements. Ugly Christmas sweaters are known for having silly and unusual designs filled with many different Christmas symbols and sayings.  Students will begin designing by deciding what features to put on their sweaters. They are provided with design menus to help them make their decisions.
  2. Use the planning guide to help decide how they want the sweater to look, what it will say, and where to put the decorations. Complete each section of the planning guide, then draw a rough sketch of the sweater.
  3. Use the ideas from your planning guide and idea board to design, draw, and color their ugly Christmas Sweater.
