Answer the question “What is a noun phrase?” with this engaging slide deck designed to help elementary students use descriptive language in their writing.
What Is a Noun Phrase?
A noun phrase contains a noun and the adjectives that describe it. For example:
- The long sparkly red dress
- Three fresh French loaves
- A big wooden treasure chest
While this may sound simple enough, the problem lies in the order of adjectives. When more than one adjective is used in a noun phrase, the adjectives need to be placed in the correct order. If they’re not, a sentence can sound very strange indeed!
This comprehensive 21-slide teaching presentation has been created by our team to introduce and reinforce the concept of noun phrases and the correct order of adjectives in a fun and accessible way. It explains the following types of adjectives:
- Quantity
- Opinion
- Size
- Age
- Shape
- Color
- Origin
- Material
- Purpose
This age-appropriate resource breaks down what seems like a complex grammar concept into bite-sized, student-friendly explanations. Whether you’re introducing noun phrases for the first time or revisiting the concept, this resource provides a structured and engaging approach that supports all learners.
