A Set of Year 5 Editing Worksheets

Editing is a valuable skill for our students to learn. It helps students develop critical thinking and attention to detail by identifying and correcting errors.

These Year 5 editing worksheets have been designed to give your students practice identifying and fixing errors in simple sentences. Each worksheet contains two separate activities:

  1. Students read the sentences, then rewrite them correctly on the line provided.
  2. Students identify whether the sentences provided are correct or need fixing. If they need fixing, students update the sentences accordingly.

This set of Year 5 editing worksheets covers the following concepts:

  • Capitalisation
  • Punctuation
  • Verb tense
  • Commas
  • Conjunctions in complex sentences

These editing sentences worksheets for Year 5 download as an easy-print PDF or an editable Google Slides file. Answers are included in both file options.

Differentiate These Editing Worksheets for Year 5

If you’re using these Year 5 editing worksheets with learners of a range of ability levels (and we assume you are!), here are some handy tips on supporting and extending your students:

  • Support Students with Scaffolding – Offer hints for students who need more guidance with correcting the sentences, such as highlighting where errors might be present or providing examples of common mistakes.
  • Challenge Students with Questioning – Choose a selection of sentences, then have more confident students write an explanation as to why changes are needed in that particular sentence.
