Information Report Text Examples for Year 2

Use this set of 5 information report text examples and 2 targeted worksheets to support your students in breaking down and understanding informative writing, and in particular, information reports.

Students will:

  • Find important features in the text examples including text title, technical words, classification, factual language, present tense and facts.
  • Look for features and understand how they help them understand the text.

Exploring Information Reports in Year 2

Support your Year 2 students as they begin to build confidence in reading and writing information reports. At this stage, students benefit from explicit modelling and guided exploration of how texts are structured and why they are written in particular ways.

This resource helps Year 2 learners to:

  • Develop an understanding of the purpose of information reports
  • Recognise how information is organised into clear sections
  • Identify simple language features such as present tense and factual statements
  • Build vocabulary through exposure to topic-specific and technical words
  • Begin making connections between what they read and how they can write

By engaging with clear, accessible exemplars and completing guided worksheets, students are supported in moving from observation to application—giving them the foundation they need to confidently create their own information reports.
