Are Your Students Pluralisation Rule Breakers?

Everyone says that some rules are meant to be broken, and that may be true. However, there are also rules that should never be broken! Some such rules are those that apply when working with plural nouns.

Young writers can experience great difficulty in determining the correct plural form to use in their writing. This resource contains eight posters that highlight the rules for pluralising the following:

  • Common nouns
  • Nouns ending in s, x, z, ch and sh
  • Nouns ending in a consonant followed by y
  • Nouns ending in vowel followed by y
  • Nouns ending in f or fe
  • Nouns ending in consonant followed by o
  • Irregular plural nouns

How to Make the Most of Your Plural Noun Rules Posters

  1. Print the posters and display them in your classroom for students to reference when doing independent work.
  2. Print the posters then slip them into a clear sleeve and use them in your guided groups as a reminder.
  3. Print the posters then slide them into a clear sleeve and hang them on a ring as a reference tool for a learning centre.
  4. Print the posters on a smaller scale (4-6 per sheet) and have students insert them into their reference folders or interactive notebooks.

Download, Print and Go!

This resource prints as a full-colour PDF or Google Slides file. Use the Download button to access your preferred file.

We recommend enlarging these posters for enhanced readability.
