Printable Puzzles for Kids

Introducing our newest addition to our collection of instructional resources: the 4-piece puzzle cards for learning the most common prefixes! As a teacher, you know how important it is for students to have a firm grasp of language and vocabulary. Students can have fun learning those important concepts with these puzzle cards.

This resource includes 12 puzzles, each with four puzzle pieces. Each puzzle consists of the prefix, its meaning, a word using the prefix, and the meaning of the prefix word. Once printed and cut apart, students match the prefixes with their meanings and examples.

Using These Prefix Puzzles in Your Classroom

This resource can be used in a variety of engaging ways to strengthen students’ understanding of prefixes, vocabulary, and word meanings. Possible classroom uses include:

  • Collaborative Group Task – Small groups complete the puzzles together, discussing their reasoning and explaining how the prefix changes the meaning of the word.
  • Speed Challenge – Students race against the clock to correctly assemble all four-piece puzzles, promoting engagement and fluency with vocabulary.
  • Word Investigation Extension –Students brainstorm additional words that use each prefix and discuss how the prefix affects the word’s meaning.
  • Interactive Display – Display completed puzzles on a classroom word wall as a reference for future reading and writing tasks.
