Build Double Consonant Words with Ease! Pocket Chart Cards

Use this resource in your reading centre, as a guided reading activity, or as a whole class exercise (see below) to practise building words with root words and suffixes.

This printable word-building resource focuses on words that require a double consonant when adding suffixes. Students will match a base word to a suffix card and add a consonant to create a new word. We recommend using these cards individually or in small group pocket chart lessons.

Scaffolding + Extension Tips 

Use this resource as independent practise for fast finishers or for whole-class learning opportunities like scoot activities, lesson reviews, comprehension assessments, and more.

Challenge students who already understand the concept to use the new words in a sentence or explain the meaning of the base word, suffix, and new word. 

Support students who need help understanding the concepts by assigning peer pairs to build new words with suffixes and root words.
