Display and discuss slide 10. Provide each student with a pre-cut Ten in the Bed – Counting Activity. Support the students to insert the slider of teddies into their bed template.
Once the students have finished, sing the song. Encourage the students to pull the slider so the teddies fall out of the bed as they are singing.
As a class, complete the number pattern on slide 10. Check the answers on slide 11.
Display and discuss slide 12. As a class, sing the Five Speckled Frogs song.
Provide each student with a copy of the Five Speckled Frogs Worksheets. Instruct the students to add some paste to the ‘glue here’ section at the the bottom of the ’empty log’ worksheet (make sure the students do not spread the paste over the whole page, or the resource will not work!). Once they have done this, instruct them to paste the ‘log with frogs’ worksheet over the top. At this point, the ‘log with frogs’ worksheet should be completely covering the ’empty logs’ worksheet. Support the students to cut along the dotted lines on the ‘log with frogs’ worksheet.
Once the students have finished, sing the song again. Encourage the students to fold down each frog, one at a time from 5 to 0, as they are singing. At the end of the song, the worksheet should show that there are no frogs left on the log.
Students watch and listen to the One Hundred Hungry Ants video on YouTube. During the video, encourage the students to put their hands on their heads each time they hear a number being read.
Encourage more capable students to assist others during the independent task.
Allow less confident students to be assisted by their peers during the independent task.
