Alphabet Order Activity – Putting the Alphabet in Order
This resource provides everything you need to help young learners practice placing letters in alphabet order independently or in small groups. Here’s what’s included in this alphabetical order activity:
- Full‑color alphabet order template
- Black‑and‑white version for easy photocopying
- Individual letter tiles to reconstruct the alphabet in order
- Teacher‑friendly instructions for setup and use
This activity builds early alphabet knowledge, supports letter‑sound recall, and strengthens students’ ability to recognize and place letters in alphabetical order with confidence.
How to Use the Alphabet in Order Template
- Print the Alphabet Order Template and Letter Cards – The downloadable PDF includes a full‑color and black‑and‑white version. Print the alphabet order template and the matching letter tiles.
- Cut and Scramble the Letters – Cut out each of the individual letter cards and mix them up. Students will use these pieces to rebuild the alphabet in order from A to Z.
- Students Put the Alphabet Back in Order – Learners place the letter tiles onto the alphabet order template, arranging them correctly from A to Z. As a helpful prompt, the first letter of each picture on the template provides a gentle clue to guide their thinking.
- Make It Reusable – Laminating the letter tiles and template allows students to practice putting the alphabet in order again and again, perfect for literacy rotations, morning work, or independent learning centers.
