On the lines

The answer is in the text. You can point to the answer.

Key questions:

  • Who?
  • What?
  • When?
  • Where?

Between the lines

The exact answer cannot be found directly. Search for clues within the text. Interpret, reason, classify.

Key questions:

  • What is the author trying to say?
  • What does the text suggest or represent?

Beyond the lines

Make connections outside of the text. Evaluate and critique.

Key questions:

  • Why is this important?
  • What does this mean to me?
  • What does this mean to other people?
