Purpose and Audience of Advertisements, Signs & Texts
In this Who’s the Audience? digital activity, students examine familiar signs and advertisements from their community — such as posters, labels, safety signs and shop displays. They learn to notice colours, symbols words and layout to understand what the text is trying to do and who it is speaking to.
Each slide asks students to decide who the appropriate audience is out of three options, helping them practise purposeful decision making in a simple, accessible way.

Understanding purpose and audience is an essential early‑years literacy skill. These slides help students recognise that every sign or advertisement is created for a reason — to inform, warn, persuade or help someone find something — and that the author always has a specific group of people in mind.
