Tuning In
- Revise the content of the previous lesson by reviewing the Grocks – What are Homophones? video on YouTube. See if the students can recall all of the pairs of homophones mentioned in the video.
- Using the Homophones Flashcards, give each student a word card. Hold up a picture card and ask the students to stand up if they think they have the word that matches the picture. Continue playing until all of the pictures and words have been matched correctly.
Teacher Instruction

- their, there and they’re
- wear, where and we’re
- your and you’re
- to, two and too
- by, buy and bye.
Guided/Independent Learning
- Allow the students to independently work through the consolidating activities in the PowerPoint presentation for each group of homophones.
- Provide the students with a copy of the Homophones Workbook – Lower Grades. Monitor and support the students to complete page 1 of the booklet.
Wrapping Up
- In order to revise the lesson’s content, ask the students:
- What did you find challenging about the homophones activities?
- What did you find easy about the homophones activities?
