Don’t Eat the Turkey! Persuasive Writing Thanksgiving Activity

Who decided that turkey had to be served on Thanksgiving? This year, Tom the turkey is determined to stay off the Thanksgiving dinner table!

Introducing Teach Starter’s Don’t Eat the Turkey! persuasive writing activity, a classroom resource that combines creativity with writing instruction to teach students the art of persuasion. In this activity, students must endeavour to save Tom the turkey by convincing others that it is possible to have a fabulous Thanksgiving feast, minus the turkey!

To complete this Don’t Eat the Turkey! persuasive writing activity, students will:

  1. Color and cut out the turkey template.
  2. Write their persuasive essays on the included lined pages, then put them in number order, starting with page 1 on top. Add the title page to the top of the stack.
  3. Glue the pages together by placing a thin line of glue along the top edge where marked, then glue the set of pages onto the turkey template where marked.
  4. Hang them up and enjoy your new curriculum-aligned turkey bulletin board!
