Here is how your students can complete this collecting data activity!
Overview
Your class is starting a fun statistics project! You’ll get to ask a question, collect data to answer it, and then share your findings. This project is all about using numbers to understand the world around you. You can investigate something that interests you—like favorite foods, screen time, pets, or hobbies.
Task
Choose a question that can be answered by collecting data from a group of people. Plan how to collect your data, organize it, and display it in a graph or chart. Then, explain what your data tells you in a short report or presentation.e
Process
- Choose a topic you’re interested in. Some question ideas have been provided, but you may come up with your own if you prefer.
- Plan your investigation. Decide who or what you will collect data from, and how you will record it.
- Collect your data and organize it using the given table. Then, create a graph or chart to display your results clearly.
- Use the template to write about what your data shows. When you are ready, present the findings of your data collection project to the class.
