The features of a website are the special parts of a webpage that help users find and understand information quickly. With so much of today’s information being housed online, it is more important than ever that our students know about these features and how they can be used to navigate the ever-expanding online world.

This 25-slide teaching presentation has been created by our experienced teacher team to help you teach the features of websites to students. It introduces the major visual, functional and navigational components of websites using clear definitions, real-life examples and student-friendly language.

Take a Deep Dive Into Website Features

This teaching presentation is packed with opportunities to explore the website features through a variety of learning activities. It’s designed to be flexible – use it as a complete lesson, a revision tool or a springboard for hands-on exploration. 

Here are a few ideas on how you could liven up learning with this digital learning tool:

• Think-Pair-Share Prompts – After presenting each feature, pause on the slide and ask a question like, “Where have you seen this before?” or “Why do you think this tool is important?” Have students discuss the question with a partner.
• Authentic Example – After presenting each feature, show the students a real-life example using an authentic, age-appropriate website. Encourage students to suggest how this feature would enhance the experience for people using the website.
• What’s the Order? – Write a list of the website features included in the presentation, then ask students to sequence them in the order they think someone would use them when exploring a new website. This encourages students to think critically about the user experience and the logical sequence of steps they follow.
