Build a Digital City With Our Geometry City Project

Blend mathematics and art with this engaging and creative “Geometry City” project! This interactive resource includes both a Google Slides presentation and an accompanying reflection worksheet. The presentation guides students step-by-step in designing their own cityscape using geometric shapes. With clear visuals and instructions, students learn how to insert, resize, and color shapes to create composite structures like skyscrapers, schools, and landmarks—all while developing a deeper understanding of geometry concepts. 

On the included worksheet, students reflect on their creations by answering questions about the shapes they used, their favorite buildings, and more. “Geometry City” is the perfect blend of math and creativity, making it an ideal project for reinforcing composite shape skills.

Using Our Build a City Project

This build a city project is great as a whole class activity, a guided group project, or a math center option. Here’s how to use it!

1. Provide each student with a copy of the reflection worksheet.
2. Discuss the questions on the worksheet so students know what to consider when creating their city. 
3. Display the slides on your interactive whiteboard and use them to teach students how to complete the project. If students have their own devices, they can find the functions that the slideshow references as you discuss them.
4. Alternatively, if you would like this activity to be done in a guided group or math center, provide the students with a device and assign the project slides via Google Classroom or by sharing the link with the students. 
5. Students create a cityscape of their own city, using the “Insert Shape” function on Google Slides. They can do this on the provided page in the slideshow or on a new Slides document. 
6. Once the cityscape is finished, students answer the questions on the accompanying worksheet. 
7. Ask students to present their cityscapes to the class!
