Is It a Good Science Question? An Interactive Game for Curious Kids

Help your early learners develop one of the most important science inquiry skills—asking good scientific questions—with this fun, interactive, and kid-friendly game. Designed specifically for young scientists, this activity teaches students how to distinguish between investigable science questions and those that cannot be tested or observed.

Using engaging images and simple question prompts, students practice thinking critically about what makes a question “scientific” in a way that’s accessible, visual, and developmentally appropriate. Help your early learners develop a foundational science inquiry skill—asking effective scientific questions—with this interactive and fun game. Specifically designed for young scientists, this kid-friendly activity teaches students to distinguish between science questions that can be investigated through testing or observation and those that cannot.

A Self-Checking Science Inquiry Game for Early Learners

In this interactive game, students are shown:

  • A high-interest image (animals, objects, real-world scenarios, and everyday materials)
  • A question prompt related to the image

Students then decide whether the question is:

  • ✅ a good science question (something they could test, observe, or investigate), or
  • ❌ not a science question (opinion-based, imaginary, or not testable)

The game is self-checking, allowing students to receive immediate feedback. This makes it perfect for Independent practice with confident readers and whole-class discussions with younger students using an interactive whiteboard.
