What Is Anzac Day?
This national day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand is traditionally a public holiday. Here are a few ways to explain it to the students in your classroom:- ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps.
- Soldiers in those forces became known as ANZACs.
- Anzac Day is held every year on the anniversary of the landing of Australian and New Zealand troops at Gallipoli, Turkey on the 25th of April in 1915.
- On this day, we honor Australians 'who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations.'
- We also honor 'the contribution and suffering of all those who have served.'
